Live a little more offline. Without ditching your phone.
Off Auth is a weekly nudge to put the screen down and do something real. Small challenges, your pace, no guilt. Tech is welcome here. It just isn’t the point.
New here? Pick one challenge. Try it this week. Come back and tell us how it went. 🙂
How it works:
- Pick one
Each week I post a few simple challenges. Choose one that sounds good. You don’t have to do them all, or do them in order. - Do it
Take a slow walk. Make something with your hands. Use your phone to get started if you need to, then set it down. - Share it
Drop a photo or a few words in the comments, or send a longer story. Each week I round up what everyone got up to so you can see you’re not doing this alone.
Founder note (About page)
A little while back I was at an event where everyone scanned a QR code to join in. If you didn’t want to, there was one other option, labeled “old school,” like wanting to do something offline made you a relic. That stuck with me.
I work in tech. I’m not here to tell you screens are bad or that you should throw your phone in a drawer. I love what technology can do. But somewhere along the way “offline” started sounding like a step backward instead of a real, good choice you get to make on purpose.
So I started Off Auth. The name is a play on “authentic.” It’s about choosing what’s real and present, on purpose, while still using the tools that genuinely help. My son, also in tech, came up with it.
This is a small, friendly place to practice that. Pick a challenge, give it a go, and share how it felt if you’d like to. I read everything, and I’d love to hear what would make this more useful to you.
Always open for authentic pauses.
Check out the stories and online challenges as we build a community that appreciates the balance.
That’s what this site is for. All of us. Share the great links. Share the offline stories. Let’s have a community that embraces the beauty of the all the worlds we live in as we navigate the modern era.
I don’t expect this to be a very active site. Maybe log in once a week-ish? But let’s embrace the balance of off and online living. And share ideas and stories from around the world. And from different gens. My hope is that this will be a site to go to for refreshing.
